Be attentive to your Captain - The Captain's word is the final word.
Be prepared with your own safety equipment outlined below.
Sign up with commitment and obligation. If you need to cancel for any reason, do so as early as possible on the Meetup event so that someone else can have an opportunity to attend the event.
Know the start time, meeting place, and parking arrangements detailed in the Meetup event.
Transportation to and from the event is solely the individual's responsibility.
Be prompt for the event (10 minutes early) or call ahead if you will be late. Latecomers are often simply left ashore.
Arrive with proper equipment:
Personal Floatation Device (PFD fitted and comfortable)
White Sole Shoes
Attire appropriate for conditions. Layered clothing prepares you for a range of conditions that occur when sailing.
Sun protection includes sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.
*Lunch and/or Snacks including something to share.
Other personal gear should be minimized and contained in a small, soft, closable, tote. Likewise lunch coolers should be compact and soft-sided.
COURTESY gift or thought. Something to acknowledge your Captain is a customary way of showing appreciation for them. This doesn't require gift wrapping, helping to mast the boat by arriving early or offering a sundowner after the sail can be appreciated.
* Appropriate foods aboard sailboats should be in general: easy, neat, finger foods that don't require preparation or refrigeration. Sandwiches, fruit and cheese/crackers are staples. Stick with the simple staples at first, and avoid chocolate because it melts.
